About

Welcome to my creative world! I am an artist based in Pontefract, West Yorkshire, drawing inspiration from the stunning landscapes and vibrant atmosphere of the UK. The lush countryside of Yorkshire with its rolling fields and serene pastures, as well as the dramatic cliffs and sweeping sea views of the North East, have played a significant role in shaping my approach compositions.

Creativity runs in my DNA. My dad is a professional Irish fiddle player, my mum an incredibly talented solo soprano, and my brother runs his own interior design business. Growing up, my mum and dad were in a Celtic rock band and we spent our weekends on the festival circuit as they performed across the UK. My childhood was a music-filled environment and being immersed in the vibrant atmosphere of festivals has infused my work with adventure, drama and folklore.

I believe that art is a sensory experience, influenced by the sounds of nature, the patter of rain, and the shifting lights of dawn and dusk. These elements not only inspire my creative process but also become integral parts of my artistic creations. The seasons in particular serve as a catalyst for creativity, with the burst of colours in spring and the subdued hues of winter providing endless inspiration.

In my artistic journey, I found myself transitioning from painting to textiles to explore a new dimension of texture and structure. Working with textiles has not only added depth and interest to my artwork but also opened up new avenues for me to express my creativity. I love the organic quality that fibres bring to my creations and I find unique textures and effects by tearing apart tweed and old wool jumpers, inspiring pieces that stand out for their distinctiveness. My work with textiles is a celebration of nature's resources, incorporating materials I find in the locations I visit into my artwork. Wool collected from that field, stones and shells from that beach, sticks from that woodland.

I met my husband at University studying design. I instantly fell in love with his creative soul. Now a full-time graphic designer, he helps me to nurture my practice and grow my business.  Even my children join me in various creative activities, which not only brings us closer together but also serves as a refreshing break from screens as we sit around the table to work on our independent projects and talk or listen to music. I exhibit my work at a range of events, participating in festivals and live events is an integral part of our lives, providing a safe and supportive space for us to express ourselves and immerse in live music, performances, and crafts. These experiences have not only enriched our lives but have also nurtured the creative aspirations of my children, fostering a future that is sure to be intertwined with creativity.

Thank you for visiting my website and sharing in my artistic journey. I hope you find as much joy and inspiration in my work as I have found in creating it.

I am fortunate to work a network of people who have helped me take Throwback Threads from a hobby to a small creative business.

  • Forever After Collective – Owned by Donna in Castleford. It was their encouragement and support that gave me the target I needed – make something and sell it. Sounds simple but making something - then showing someone is one thing, but making something - then putting it out in the world and hoping someone will think its nice enough to buy?!?! Well they helped me believe I could – and I did! Great gift-store, fab people, worth a visit!
